With 300 days of sunshine a year, you can’t get it wrong, most of the time. However, it does help to play it safe if you’re looking for a bucket-and-spade holiday. The best time of year to visit Malta is probably early June.
The Best Month to Visit Malta is June
Although the weather turns warm at least 2 months before that, you may find that the weather can turn easily, and you can get a few cloudy days or rain during your holiday. If you want to be sure you get a week or two of blue bright skies, then June is your month.
If you’re looking to spend time on the beach, June will still treat you nice. You may find the water is still a little nippy if you visit Malta in early June. If you prefer warmer waters, you may want to visit later in the month. By the end of June, the water is warm enough to swim for everyone.
Temperatures You Can Expect Visiting Malta in June
June in Malta can range in temperature. This is the month where we transition from pleasant days into beach heat. The temperature ranges between lows of 19°C (66.2°F) and highs of 28°C (82.4°F). You can enjoy temperatures around 28 degrees during the day toward the second half of June; the lows also creep up to almost hit the twenties. This heat becomes relentless in July, August and September, staying hot into the night too. This can make sleeping very uncomfortable if you’re not used to it. The average sea temperature for the month of June is 22°C (71.6°F). As such, this is warm enough for most people to have a dip.
June is a great one for sun and sea, but I can hear you wondering… is it going to be really busy with tourists? We won’t lie to you. June is the month when tourism starts getting busy.
It is, however, not the busiest month, because it’s less popular than July, August and September. During the months of July and August, Malta attracts the serious sun-worshipper tourists as well as English Language students. September is also popular because it is a ‘cheaper’ month to book flights and accommodation. Coming in June will mean you can’t enjoy the empty beaches that you can enjoy in the colder months, but you also won’t need to spend hours queuing at every historical site you visit…. And most important of all – you can find a spot on the beach with ample room to stretch your legs, spread your humungous beach towel, set-up your camp for the kids and bury yourself in the sand – and why not?
It might be a little tight on the beach in August to do all of this because Maltese beaches, albeit beautiful, are not exactly big and spacious.
Everyone’s Open for Business
June is also the month when all the tourist destinations and museums are open for business. In the winter you can get sketchy opening hours as the flow of tourists is not consistent.
